Did you know that beauty standards vary dramatically even within East Asia? China’s ornate beauty, Korea’s clean and refined beauty, Japan’s distinctive beauty. These images are not something recently invented. We are excited to invite you to our 3rd exhibition, [The Ancestral Glow], which traces how each country’s beauty standards took shape.
I believe this is a rare opportunity for most people living in North America and other regions to learn and hear how beauty itself and its underlying standards are defined differently across East Asia, Korea, China, and Japan.
However, there are quite different cultures, traditions, and perceptions among these countries, and this has not been well known. These aesthetic concepts, rooted in each country during the 18th and 19th centuries, finally blossomed in the 19th century, an era when thought and history matured into a richer cultural maturity. This is precisely why this exhibition focuses on 19th century paintings from each country, as they best capture the moment when each nation’s distinct beauty standards took visual form.
You may discover what differs among the three countries in terms of beauty standards and how it has been passed down to our generation after visiting this exhibition.
In our third exhibition, we would like to talk not only about the exhibition contents and curatorial elements, but also about our updated exhibition UI design and several new functions we have added, such as informational popup spots and guest notes.
To all our subscribers, we are sharing a direct button to enjoy the exhibition without the signup process on our site. After enjoying our experimental exhibition, please leave your thoughts and ideas through the button below. It will be tremendously helpful for our next exhibitions with our artist members. We would also like to ask you, “Who wants to be the next artist to exhibit their beautiful artworks and unique story with us?”
